In his controversial final work for the theatre, Fassbinder examines the bitter legacy of Nazism in modern Germany through a brutal love story between a prostitute and rich Jewish businessman. Set "on the moon, because it is just as uninhabitable as the earth," Fassbinder uses song, dance, and a typical blend of acid wit and stark tragedy to explore a vicious world of whores, deviants, and heartless exploiters. Presented as a part of the Goethe Institute’s Fassbinder retrospective, this challenging work attacks the brutal exploitation of love by vileness.
