Each volunteer for the Milgram experiment is told to teach things to another volunteer, in reality an actor, then to test the knowledge, and to administer punishment in the form of electric shock when the learner gets an answer wrong. The volunteer is told to increase the level of shock with each successive wrong answer. In the real Milgram experiment in 1963, 65% of the volunteers proceeded to the highest level of shock, labeled with – extremely dangerous-, undergoing intense emotional stress along the way.
